Meditation Resources We Actually Recommend

Everything here is something we’d genuinely hand to a friend. No affiliate links, no sponsorships. Where a resource comes from our own nonprofit, we say so plainly.

Books worth reading

  • The Tranquil Mind by Nathaniel T. Heidler — full disclosure: this one is ours, written by our founder. A short, practical guide to loving-kindness meditation, the method taught on this site. Free on Kindle Unlimited.
  • Path to Nibbana by David Johnson — a clear presentation of Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation (TWIM), the tradition our teachers practice in.

Original texts, free online

  • SuttaCentral — the Buddha’s discourses in modern translation, free. If you ever want to read what the earliest sources actually say about meditation, start here.
  • Access to Insight — a huge, well-organized library of translations and study guides from the Theravada tradition.

Learning from a teacher

  • The Tranquil Mind — our nonprofit. Free one-on-one guidance sessions over Zoom, in the loving-kindness tradition. How it works.
  • Dhamma Sukha — the meditation center founded by Bhante Vimalaramsi, with retreats and free teaching materials in the TWIM tradition.

Apps

We’re neutral on apps — some people thrive with them, others find them one more subscription to feel guilty about. If you want to try one, Insight Timer has the largest free library, and a plain kitchen timer honestly works fine. No app is required to learn to meditate.
